AVSystem collaborates with Atlas Copco to extend the Connected Air System Connectivity Capabilities

Written by AVSystem | 19/10/2026

Compressed air is essential to modern manufacturing, powering everything from pneumatic tools to complex production lines. As manufacturers strive to improve productivity while meeting their sustainability targets, ensuring the reliability and efficiency of compressed air systems has become increasingly important.

To help manufacturers address these challenges, Atlas Copco's Compressor Technique Business Area developed SMARTLINK, a cloud-based monitoring system that connects compressed air equipment and transforms operational data into actionable insights. By offering real-time visibility into equipment performance, energy consumption, and maintenance needs, SMARTLINK enables customers to increase uptime, improve efficiency, and make more informed decisions about their compressed air installations.

SMARTLINK offers three service levels, designed to support different customer needs:

  • SMARTLINK Uptime
Provides AI-driven prescriptive maintenance recommendations, generates reports on machine usage and stores all equipment documentation and telemetry data in one centralized platform.
  • SMARTLINK Supervision
In addition to all the benefits of SMARTLINK Uptime, this service offers 24/7 supervision from Atlas Copco experts based on machine telemetry data and AI-driven recommendations.
  • SMARTLINK Energy
Helps customers easily monitor and optimize the energy consumption of their compressed air installation. The recommendations are based on the actual operating conditions of the machine and data collected from sensors, which are installed in the Atlas Copco machines, or energy calculation models.

As the SMARTLINK platform expanded, Atlas Copco needed a scalable and secure way to connect a growing variety of equipment and manage devices across its global installed base. To address this challenge, Atlas Copco developed its newest IoT device, SMARTBOX PRO. Therefore, Atlas Copco relies on AVSystem's Coiote IoT Device Management Platform. The key capabilities of the platform are:

  • Versatile Connectivity
The Coiote IoT Device Management’s architecture supports versatile connectivity mechanisms, notably utilizing LwM2M gateways. This ensures that data from behind the gateway sensors is seamlessly routed to the cloud alongside direct IP devices.
  • Fleet-wide Firmware Management
Fleet Managers can schedule Firmware Over-the-Air (FOTA) updates for specific groups of devices, ensuring all machines run the latest software while minimizing disruptions to business operations. A built-in FOTA approval flow allows managers to safely review and approve updates before deployment.
  • Global Scalability
To accommodate Atlas Copco’s worldwide activities, AVSystem supports multiple geographical regions with independent Coiote clusters, ensuring seamless global device registration and deep regulatory compliance.

The combination of Atlas Copco’s engineering expertise in compressed air and AVSystem’s IoT technology has delivered significant value to the manufacturing sector:

  • Massive Global Scale
Atlas Copco has connected more than 300.000 machines on a global scale. AVSystem's platform provides the foundation for Atlas Copco to further expand connectivity across compressed air installations and related equipment worldwide.
  • Real-Time Intelligence
The system processes large volumes of information, delivering more than 150 measurements per second and providing real-time visibility into equipment performance.
  • Improved Energy Efficiency
By identifying inefficiencies and optimizing equipment performance, customers can have significant energy savings, supporting both cost reduction and sustainability initiatives.
  • Increased Reliability
Thanks to SMARTLINK in combination with an Atlas Copco service contract, customers can increase equipment availability and reduce the risk of unplanned downtime.
  • Certified Security
The SMARTLINK ecosystem is designed with security as a core principle and operates within an ISO 27001-certified framework, ensuring the protection of customer and operational data.

As the SMARTLINK ecosystem continues to expand, Atlas Copco relies on AVSystem's Coiote IoT Device Management Platform to manage connected equipment at global scale. This enables Atlas Copco to deliver connected services that help manufacturers improve efficiency, increase reliability, and gain greater insight into the performance of their compressed air installations.
