A German fibre operator with over 2 million devices has moved its CPE management from its incumbent vendor to AVSystem's Unified Management Platform (UMP). With the switch, the operator added two capabilities it did not have before: the Customer Experience Management (CEM) Platform for in-home Wi-Fi experience, and the Wi-Fi Experience Mobile App, AVSystem's newest product, selected for its first deployment.
Two things decided the evaluation. The operator wanted more than a replacement for device management: an end-to-end stack where customer care diagnostics and a subscriber-facing app run on the same platform as CPE management. It also needed the platform delivered on Kubernetes, which the incumbent could not provide. UMP runs on operator-controlled infrastructure, with Kubernetes as one of its supported deployment options.
At the core of the deployment is UMP's hybrid engine. UMP combines a TR-069 ACS and a TR-369/USP Controller in one platform, so the operator manages TR-069 and TR-369/USP devices side by side and can move device populations to USP at its own pace, without running a second system.
CEM is a new layer for the operator's customer care teams. The platform turns CPE and Wi-Fi telemetry into health scores, root-cause analysis, and guided interventions. Agents get a diagnosis and a next action instead of raw parameters, and a REST API feeds scores and recommendations into the operator's existing ticketing tools.
The Wi-Fi Experience Mobile App, the second new addition, puts the same diagnostics in subscribers' hands, so the people who notice a problem first can also be the first to act on it. Router-side and phone-side speed tests show whether a slowdown sits on the line or in the home Wi-Fi. A room-by-room RSSI coverage scan maps signal strength and suggests where to place a mesh node or extender. Guided troubleshooting hands the case over to Customer Care when subscribers need help, and access-control profiles let households manage their devices. The app ships white-labelled, either standalone or as an SDK inside the operator's own app.
The app adds nothing on the CPE and nothing on the integration side. It reads the device data UMP already collects, over the same open standards (TR-069, TR-369/USP), so an operator running UMP or Cloud ACS can add it without a new device management integration.
"This is a very important case for us because it created space to develop this mobile app that we are launching, and we believe that it will bring immense value to our customers. It is bridging a huge gap between typical Wi-Fi experience apps, operator apps and CPE vendor apps. We are tying all of their loose ends and delivering that on the management stack that we provide," said Tomasz Radwan, Product Manager, AVSystem.
