This is becoming increasingly important as grid-edge devices take on more functionality and utilities operate increasingly diverse environments. Maintaining security, operational control, and the ability to evolve these systems over time requires common, interoperable foundations rather than another layer of proprietary integration.
LwM2M can provide that foundation by standardizing how devices are onboarded, configured, monitored, secured, and updated throughout their lifecycle. For utilities, this means less dependence on vendor-specific management systems, easier integration of new devices and applications, and a more consistent way to operate heterogeneous fleets across different vendors and connectivity technologies.
AVSystem contributes practical engineering and deployment experience through OMA, where we participate in technical and strategic work and support interoperability testing. We also engage with organizations such as German BSI or DKE to help align standards with real regulatory requirements.
Within GEISA, hosted by LF Energy, we support the application of LwM2M in interoperable grid-edge architectures. Through the Wi-SUN Alliance, we are also exploring how secure field connectivity can work together with standardized device lifecycle and network management.
The objective of all these initiatives is to ensure easier integration, greater freedom of vendor choice, and infrastructure that can evolve without requiring a new management approach for every device or network.
At the LF Energy Summit, we want to discuss how these different technologies and initiatives can work together in real smart-grid and smart-metering architectures.
