Forward Deployed Engineer (Seattle, WA)

Forward Deployed Engineer - Onsite Support Services

We are looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to join our Onsite Delivery team based in Seattle, WA. In this role you will be the face of AVSystem at one of our flagship North American telco customer, working hand-in-hand with their engineering and operations teams while remaining tightly connected with our remote delivery team in Europe.

You will combine hands-on engineering work — code, configuration, integrations, troubleshooting — with the soft skills and project awareness needed to keep a complex, multi-stakeholder deployment moving forward.

AVSystem’s products enable device management, service activation, and monitoring for global CSP leaders like AT&T, Orange, T-Mobile, and Vodafone. As an onsite engineer you will own the day-to-day technical relationship with the customer, deliver configurations and knowledge transfer onsite, and act as the local technical bridge between the customer and the remote AVSystem teams.

In this role you will:

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with customer staff at all levels - from operations engineers to project leads and middle management
  • Work closely with the remote AVSystem team (Solution Architects, Software Engineers, TPMs) to ensure successful delivery of configurations, integrations, and knowledge transfer to the onsite customer
  • Lead or assist in the technical implementation of projects and programs assigned to the team in a manner that achieves the strategic goals — with minimal supervision
  • Maintain an end-to-end overview of the projects you are involved in: understand scope, dependencies, milestones, and how the AVSystem products fit into the customer’s broader architecture
  • Develop and maintain deep working knowledge of the AVSystem products delivered to the customer (UMP, ACS, device management stack) so you can advise, configure, and troubleshoot with confidence

Hands-on engineering work:

  • Write project-specific code in our platform GUI to facilitate router and CPE configuration
  • Implement REST APIs (servers & clients) integrations with the customer’s external systems (with help of development and local teams)
  • Configure our platform GUI to display, monitor, and report on router and service KPIs
  • Participate directly in deployment and ongoing activities — system configuration, verification, and troubleshooting onsite
  • Translate the customer’s technical requirements into actionable engineering tasks for the remote team, ensuring clarity and feasibility

Post-delivery and operational duties:

  • Support integrations you’ve implemented; work with 1st & 2nd lines of support to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve issues effectively and promptly
  • Train customer technical teams on how to operate and maintain our systems effectively after deployment

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in programming is a must:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (preferred), Software Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications, or equivalent practical experience
    • Proficient in at least one programming language (Python nice to have)
    • Willingness to learn other functional programming languages
    • Experience writing REST API integrations (both client- and server-side)
  • Solid understanding of networking and the TCP/IP stack: switching & routing fundamentals (CCNA-level is a plus), firewalls, IP, WLAN, TCP/UDP, HTTP(S), DNS, DHCP
  • Linux system administration skills: gathering logs, executing scripts, CLI tooling (curl, ssh, ss, tcpdump, traceroute, ping); RHCSA-level comfort is a plus
  • Working knowledge of servers, APIs, application architecture, and observability tools; basic familiarity with containers and virtualization
  • Fluent in English / native — this role requires daily, direct communication with the customer onsite and with the remote European team
  • Authorization to work in the United States; able to commute to the customer site in the Seattle, WA area on a hybrid schedule
  • Optional: familiarity with telecom / device-management protocols is a strong plus: CWMP (TR-069), TR-369 (USP), XMPP, PKI

Personality/soft-skills:

  • Strong relationship-building skills - you can earn trust with engineers, leads, and managers, and keep that trust under delivery pressure
  • Comfortable representing AVSystem onsite as the technical face of the company
  • Rapid learner, analytical, detail- and outcome-oriented, able to solve complex problems independently within evolving requirements
  • Effective in listening to customers, clarifying their needs, and translating them into engineering work
  • Capable of managing deadline pressures and context-switching across multiple parallel project tasks
Nice to have:
  • Professional experience in a Software Engineer, Integration Engineer, Forward Deployed Software Engineer or similar role
  • Hands-on experience with OLT or network device management (CLI, NMS) from vendors such as Nokia, Huawei, or ZTE
  • Awareness of project delivery practices - you don’t need to be a PM, but understanding milestones, dependencies, RAID logs, and stakeholder communication will help you thrive

What you'll get:

  • A front-row seat on deployments that actually matter - systems managing millions of connected devices for a Tier-1 US carrier
  • Real networks, real scale, real engineering - not “status update theater”
  • Direct line to skilled engineers, architects, and TPMs in Europe who value clarity, responsibility, and a good sense of humor more than job titles
  • Hybrid working model - split your week between remote work and the customer site in the Seattle, WA area
  • Room to grow toward senior engineering or delivery-leadership tracks, depending on where your strengths take you
  • Polish tech, built in-house, deployed globally - with a flat structure, fast decisions, and a genuinely friendly atmosphere
  • Open-source contribution opportunities
  • Training and conferences
  • 401k Retirement Plan
  • Medical, Dental and Vision insurance
