Visive's previous struggles

Before adopting AVSystem, Visive tested several commercial LwM2M servers. All claimed standards compliance, but real-world performance exposed major issues:

• Frequent DTLS session drops
• Devices stuck in reconnection loops
• Broken queueing logic for downlink messages
• LwM2M spec deviations requiring workaround firmware changes
• Kafka / MQTT / RESTful feeds that randomly dropped data
• Increased cellular data usage due to retry storms

These issues directly translated into support costs, field resets, and unnecessary SIM top-ups.

The team was able to tailor how the platform behaved for different device types, including:

• Controlling content encoding: Coiote DM allows for per-device rules regarding payload formatting. Visive could toggle between formats (e.g., TLV vs SenML CBOR) to accommodate older firmware versions and optimize data usage on constrained networks. This enabled seamless backward compatibility without forcing firmware updates on legacy deployments.
• Deterministic Data Streaming: Previous platforms struggled to maintain data integrity during network hiccups. Coiote DM’s Kafka integration delivers 100% of device events, even under intermittent network availability.
  This ensures ultra-reliable data streaming between Coiote DM and Visive’s V-Connect cloud, ensuring real-time telemetry even under intermittent network conditions; something that simply wasn’t reliably achievable with other platforms.
• Extended Telemetry & Transaction Visibility: Visive was able to extend Kafka integrations to stream additional operational data. This included requesting specific data streams, such as request/response status for downlink messages, providing full transparency on command delivery and execution.

• Deep Device-Level Logging & Protocol Introspection: Perhaps the most significant differentiator was the depth of diagnostics. While previous vendors provided only basic message logging, AVSystem provided full protocol introspection.
  Coiote DM exposes full Device ↔ Server packet traces, enabling Visive to:

  • Perform in-field firmware analysis.

  • Debug issues without requiring physical access to the device.

  • Conduct rigorous protocol-level validation.

No other platform offered this level of customization with such clear timelines, transparent communication, and reasonable costs.
